Smart Digging With 811 Call
Smart digging always means calling 811 before every job. Digging without calling can lead to severe consequences including harm to those who dig, costly damages to underground infrastructure and utility service disruptions.
The depth of utility lines may vary and multiple utility lines may exist in one area. Marked lines show those who dig the approximate location of underground lines and help prevent undesired consequences.
811 is a FCC-designated national N-11 number for homeowners and professional excavators to call before digging. The national 811 number will not replace your local one call number. The One Call process will remain the same and continue to notify your local affected utility companies, who will continue to mark your underground lines for free.
Each state has different rules and regulations governing digging, some stricter than others. State laws vary from 48 to 72 hours advance notice, most excluding weekends and legal holidays.
