Authorities: 2 Construction Workers Injured in Manhole Accident
LEBANON, N.H. (AP) – Authorities say two men who were working in a manhole were injured, one seriously, when a plug used to block a sewer pipe blew out and hit them in Lebanon.
Fire Chief Chris Christopolous tells The Valley News (http://bit.ly/2hI5MYs ) the men were working on the Interstate 89 sewer crossing project when the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Christopolous says one of the men wasn’t able to climb out of the manhole, so rescuers climbed inside, strapped him to a backboard and lifted him out.
Both men, who weren’t immediately identified, were taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. They are expected to recover.
Project manager Matias Miguez says it isn’t clear why the plug dislodged from the pipe and hit the men. Work is expected to continue.
