Michigan Town Awards $1.3 Million for Sewer Construction

The city of Kalamazoo has approved more than $1.3 million for sewer rehabilitation and manhole rehabilitation projects. The contracts awarded include:
- A $973,750, two-year contract extension with Corby Energy Services, Inc. for sewer rehabilitation
- A $379,209, three-year contract with Monoform, LLC for manhole rehabilitation
Once completed, the work will provide an extra 50 years to the city’s sewer pipes and manholes without requiring service interruptions and major road construction. Construction is scheduled to begin this year and be finished in 2019.
Kalamazoo’s sanitary sewer system dates back to the 1880’s. The city has approximately 300 miles of underground sewer infrastructure today, with 239 miles installed before 1967 and 136 miles installed before 1953.
