Regulators Order Changes at North Mississippi Water Utility
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi utility regulators are ordering changes in a rural water association.
The move came after residents complained about water quality and other issues with Lafayette County’s 850-customer Punkin Water Association.
The Oxford Eagle reports Northern District Commissioner Brandon Presley ordered the association to report its plans to improve water quality after hearing numerous complaints about discolored water at a hearing last week.
Presley, a Democrat, is also ordering the association to report on plans to buy water from the city of Oxford. Association President John Davis said during the hearing that the association’s wells can’t supply enough water during dry weather.
Buying water from Oxford could spark a rate increase.
