Markwest Agrees to Payment for Pipeline Installation Issue
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) —A subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum's MPLX midstream partnership has reportedly agreed with West Virginia regulators to pay $124,030 for environmental violations related to a pipeline installation.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reported that MPLX's MarkWest Liberty Midstream & Resources entered into the consent order recently with the the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. The order is subject to a comment period ending May 16.
The consent order outlines environmental issues while the company was installing a pipeline in Doddridge and Wetzel counties between August 2018 and February 2019.
DEP inspectors visited the site Feb. 27 and found the company failed to keep sediment-laden water from leaving the site, and “caused conditions not allowable in waters of the State by creating distinctly visible settleable solids” in one of the bodies of water.
The company didn’t respond to a request for comment.
