Lumos secures $2 million fiber optic project in Spartanburg County, S.C.
(UI) — Lumos has received over $1.2 million from South Carolina’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Capital Project Fund Grant Program.
The funding, combined with Lumos’ private investment of over $800,000, will enable the company to build approximately $2 million worth of fiber optic technology to reach unserved and underserved households in the Spartanburg community. Through this partnership, Lumos will reach nearly 700 homes and small businesses that lack essential broadband internet access.
“We are thankful for South Carolina’s widespread and enthusiastic support of Lumos,” said Lumos CEO, Brian Stading. “The community leaders are eager for residents and local businesses to access high-speed fiber Internet. With this funding, we can extend our service to support more families and businesses throughout the county.”
“This investment by Lumos and the state of South Carolina will change many lives through the broadband it brings to these unserved areas of Spartanburg County,” said Spartanburg District Five Councilman Bob Walker. “Lumos Fiber is a local, North Carolina-based company and we so appreciate that one of their first expansion markets in the state of South Carolina is Spartanburg County. Not only will this project provide a competitive option to give citizens a choice in broadband, but the Lumos network is 100% fiber optic, which will be much faster than legacy copper phone or cable options.”

Lumos announced its expansion into Spartanburg in March 2023 and will begin construction this year. With a future-forward infrastructure built from the ground up, Lumos’ 100% Fiber Optic Internet fuels economic development by providing access to a network designed to support community members who learn, work and entertain from home.
