Fort Worth residents brace for 2024 water and stormwater fee hikes
(UI) — Fort Worth residents will experience a surge in their water and stormwater fees starting January 1, 2024, NBCDFW 5 reported.
Following city council approval in September, a series of fees and rate adjustments will take effect, impacting garbage, water, and wastewater services, according to NBCDFW 5. While trash fees see an increase, with residents now facing charges for overloaded carts and loose bags, the primary focus lies on adjustments to water and stormwater fees.
Water and stormwater fees
Effective January 1, 2024, Fort Worth residents will witness alterations to water and wastewater fees for the first time in four years, as sanctioned by the City Council. Monthly water bills are set to rise by approximately $2.18, with the additional funds allocated to infrastructure improvements. The city aims to address aging pipes and enhance water facilities amid population growth and recent water main breaks.
Simultaneously, the stormwater fee undergoes a 15% increase, adding $6.61 per month to the average home water bill. These funds will contribute to initiatives preventing and mitigating flooding issues in Fort Worth, with about 38% of properties facing flood risks. The city plans to invest over $100 million in flood mitigation improvements over the next five years.
