South Dakota allocates $105 million in ARPA grants for water infrastructure projects
PIERRE, S.D. (UI) – The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) has announced that the Board of Water and Natural Resources approved over $105 million in additional American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grants. These funds are designated for enhancing drinking water and wastewater systems across the state and will be administered by the Department.
Under the leadership of Governor Noem and with strong legislative support, South Dakota is making a significant investment in its infrastructure by allocating a total of $689,384,221 from ARPA funds specifically for local water and wastewater projects. This allocation marks the conclusion of ARPA water funding.
"I am pleased to announce the availability of this financial assistance," said DANR Secretary Hunter Roberts. "Safe and reliable water infrastructure not only protects our environment but also strengthens our communities for future generations."
The grants have been awarded to various projects across the state:
- Aurora-Brule Rural Water: $846,775 for infrastructure improvements including a new water main and storage reservoir.
- BDM Rural Water System: $1,738,345 for a new water treatment plant and system expansions.
- Black Hawk Water User District: $254,340 for a new water main installation near I-90.
- Brookings: $8,000,000 for constructing a new water treatment facility and municipal wells.
- And many more projects receiving substantial grants to improve water supply and infrastructure statewide.
These initiatives represent a crucial investment in South Dakota's water infrastructure, ensuring sustainable and resilient systems for communities across the state.
