Louisiana receives $52.7 million for natural gas infrastructure upgrades

(UI) — U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), announced that Louisiana has been awarded more than $52.7 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) under the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Fiscal Year 2023 Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure and Safety Modernization Grants, as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
"These grants will enhance the safety and efficiency of our infrastructure for years to come," said Dr. Cassidy.
Grant recipients and their project descriptions include:
- City of Donaldsonville: $20 million for pipeline construction to replace 27.3 miles of natural gas infrastructure.
- Gas Utility District 2 of East Feliciana: $15.5 million for pipeline construction to replace approximately 112 miles of natural gas infrastructure.
- Gas Utility District #1 of East Baton Rouge Parish: $9.43 million for pipeline construction to replace 31.6 miles of natural gas infrastructure.
- Gas Utility District of West Feliciana Parish: $2.34 million for pipeline construction to replace 8.7 miles of natural gas infrastructure.
- Town of Berwick: $1.99 million for a pipeline construction project to replace 7.09 miles of natural gas infrastructure, and $1.85 million for another project to replace 6.28 miles of infrastructure.
- City of Walker: $1.15 million for pipeline construction to replace 4.37 miles of natural gas infrastructure.
- City of Port Allen: $206,000 for pipeline construction to replace 0.57 miles of natural gas infrastructure.
- Town of Berwick: $187,081 to replace aging meters for approximately 250 customers.
- Gas Utility District #1 of East Baton Rouge Parish: $69,269 to acquire methane leak detection equipment.
