Sugar Land, Texas, moves forward with $6.5 million drainage upgrades in Sugar Creek
(UI) — The Sugar Land City Council has approved a $6.5 million construction project for the second phase of drainage improvements in the Sugar Creek subdivision.
Building on initial upgrades completed in 2022, this phase will extend drainage and water lines along Montclair Boulevard from Wellington Drive to Country Club Boulevard, with additional extensions along Country Club to Power Court. The project also includes pavement replacement on Country Club Boulevard from Sugar Creek Boulevard to the city limit.
Construction is slated to begin in March and is expected to take about a year.
This project is part of a broader initiative funded by $90.76 million in bonds that Sugar Land voters approved in November 2019. The bond package, developed through master plans, city council feedback, and resident input, prioritizes drainage, public safety, and traffic improvements across the city.
As part of the bond, over $47 million was earmarked specifically for drainage enhancements, including the $8.8 million allocated to the Sugar Creek project. This effort aims to improve stormwater flow through larger storm sewers, new outfalls, and inlets, alongside street resurfacing along Montclair Drive from the CenterPoint easement to Country Club Boulevard.
