W.A. Rasic to lead $100 million water main overhaul in Los Angeles, Calif.
(UI) — W.A. Rasic Construction has secured more than $100 million in contracts from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) to upgrade aging water infrastructure in the city, including the replacement of key segments of a century-old trunk line.
The largest of the awarded projects is the Western Trunk Line – Phase 2A. The $67.7 million contract involves the installation of approximately 12,000 feet of new 36-inch trunk line and 7,000 feet of distribution mains ranging from 6 to 12 inches in diameter. The work targets a deteriorating portion of the Harbor Trunk Line, which supplies clean water to South Los Angeles and surrounding communities.
“This is not just a routine upgrade,” the company stated. “It’s about ensuring safe, reliable access to water and reducing the frequency of emergency repairs.”
To increase resiliency, the new trunk line will use Earthquake Resistant Ductile Iron Pipe (ERDIP), designed to withstand seismic activity—an important factor as California continues to face droughts and increased earthquake risks.
The second contract awarded to W.A. Rasic supports additional improvements to LADWP’s broader infrastructure plan. Together, both projects are intended to reinforce system reliability and serve hundreds of thousands of residents.
With more than four decades of experience in underground utility and civil construction, W.A. Rasic has consistently partnered with LADWP and other agencies to deliver high-priority infrastructure solutions across the state.
