Construction Underway for UGI's Sunbury Pipeline
UGI Energy Services celebrated the start of construction on its Sunbury Pipeline with a groundbreaking ceremony in central Pennsylvania near the Panda Hummel Station power plant it will serve.
The 35-mile-long pipeline will carry natural gas from the Transco interstate pipeline in eastern Lycoming County through parts of Montour, Northumberland, Union and Snyder counties on its way to the power plant in Shamokin Dam.
Construction on the 20-inch pipeline is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, with the plant projected coming online in early 2018.
Gladys M. Brown, chairman of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), stressed the importance of new pipeline capacity during the event.
“The Sunbury Pipeline Project will not only help bring more local energy to local users, but also help meet our clean power goals by fueling efficient natural gas-fired electric generation,” she said.
