Public Meeting on ANR’s Plans for COVID Relief Funding
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The secretary of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources is hosting a public meeting to discuss a variety of environmental topics, including the agency’s plan to invest about $100 million in COVID-19 relief funding on water infrastructure projects.
The meeting takes place Oct. 7 from 4 to 5 p.m. online on Microsoft Teams and in-person at the Agency of Natural Resources main office in Montpelier.
Vermont will receive more than $2.7 billion in American Rescue Plan Act funding, the agency said.
“This funding offers Vermont an unprecedented opportunity to make significant investments in critical infrastructure to support water and sewer systems, affordable housing and water quality improvements,” Vermont Natural Resources Secretary Julie Moore said in a statement. “Together, these projects will spur transformational change here in Vermont.”
The agency said it will administer funding to towns, commercial entities and individuals primarily to support water quality projects.
The five priority areas are: pretreatment, which removes harmful pollutants in wastewater before it is discharged to a municipal sewer system; village water and sewer infrastructure; elimination of sewer overflows; treatment of storm water runoff; and healthy homes, providing funding to eligible mobile home parks and low-income homeowners to repair or replace failed water and sewer infrastructure, the agency said.
