North Texas begins 11-mile Cedar Creek pipeline overhaul to prevent PCCP failures
(UI) - The Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) has launched construction on Phase I of the Cedar Creek Section 2 Pipeline Replacement, a major reliability upgrade spanning roughly 11 miles between Mansfield and Midlothian, Texas.
The $155 million project will replace aging 72-inch PCCP pipe—much of it affected by hydrogen-embrittlement wire breaks—with new 90-inch and 102-inch welded steel pipe to prevent failures and expand system capacity.
Early work is underway following a late-2024 construction start, with crews installing erosion controls and stripping topsoil in the Mansfield area. Large-diameter steel segments are scheduled to arrive beginning the week of Nov. 17 along the TRWD right-of-way.
The project is being delivered under two contracts, with the first phase coordinated alongside TxDOT’s planned FM 664 widening. Completion is expected in 2028.
