Garney expands into Pacific Northwest with acquisition of Emery & Sons

Garney has completed the acquisition of Emery & Sons Construction Group, a Salem, Oregon–based heavy civil and underground utility contractor, marking Garney’s formal entry into the Pacific Northwest and expanding its national water and infrastructure platform.

Garney said the deal strengthens its ability to deliver large-scale water, wastewater and underground utility projects as infrastructure demand accelerates across the U.S. Emery & Sons brings nearly 60 years of regional experience in underground utilities, heavy civil construction and municipal infrastructure.

Founded in 1967, Emery & Sons Construction Group is one of the largest underground utility contractors in the Northwest, with a strong track record in transmission and distribution pipelines, water mains and civil infrastructure improvements. The acquisition gives Garney a permanent operational footprint in Oregon and the broader Pacific Northwest.

Garney CEO David Burkhart said Emery & Sons’ technical expertise, safety culture and community focus made it a strong strategic fit. He added that the combined organization will be positioned to pursue larger and more complex water and civil infrastructure projects while maintaining local delivery capabilities.

Emery & Sons President Dan Vannoy said joining Garney provides new growth opportunities for employees and clients while preserving the company’s established culture and regional relationships.

Garney reported annual revenues exceeding $2 billion and more than 2,700 employee-owners nationwide. Both companies will continue operating under their existing names and leadership teams as integration moves forward, with a focus on expanding underground utility, transmission and distribution, and large-scale civil construction capabilities across the region.
