Federal review advances Mojave groundwater bank project
(UI) - Cadiz and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation have entered a funding agreement supporting technical and regulatory review work tied to the proposed Mojave Groundwater Bank project in Southern California.
The agreement will help fund federal evaluation of water exchange proposals, water supply validation and technical analysis associated with potential future federal investment in the project. Initial work is expected to begin immediately, according to Cadiz.
The Mojave Groundwater Bank project is designed to support long-term water supply reliability in the Southwest through groundwater storage and proposed pipeline infrastructure connecting the Colorado River and California State Water Project systems.
Project officials say the groundwater bank could help improve drought resilience and operational flexibility for water agencies throughout the region. The project is located near the California-Arizona-Nevada border and includes both groundwater storage capacity and water conveyance infrastructure.
