Ohio funds 678 infrastructure projects with $392.8-million investment

(UI) - The Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) has approved nearly $392.8 million in funding for 678 infrastructure projects across 87 counties, including significant investments in water, wastewater and stormwater systems serving communities statewide.

The annual funding package includes $64.1 million for water supply projects, $35.4 million for wastewater improvements and $13.4 million for stormwater infrastructure, ABC 6 reported. Additional funding will support other local public works projects. According to the OPWC, projects are prioritized based on public health and safety, infrastructure condition, age and the number of residents served.

The funding round also includes $37.4 million for 89 projects through Ohio's Small Government Program, which helps communities with populations of 5,000 or fewer compete for infrastructure funding. According to ABC 6, the program is intended to assist smaller municipalities in addressing critical utility and public works needs.

Project agreements have now been released, allowing work to move forward across the state. OPWC officials said the investments will help communities modernize aging infrastructure, improve system reliability and support future growth.
