United Rentals launches AI equipment planning tool in ChatGPT
STAMFORD, Conn. (UI) — United Rentals has launched its AI-powered Equipment Agent within OpenAI’s ChatGPT platform, expanding digital equipment planning tools for construction and industrial customers.
The company said the tool allows users to search for equipment recommendations through a conversational interface designed to help contractors identify equipment for specific jobsite conditions and project requirements.
United Rentals described the rollout as the first equipment rental application available through the ChatGPT platform.
The Equipment Agent was originally introduced earlier this year as an AI-based recommendation system intended to help customers identify equipment options more quickly for construction and industrial projects.
Tony Leopold said the expansion reflects broader efforts to simplify access to equipment expertise through digital tools customers already use.
“By bringing the Equipment Agent into ChatGPT, we’re meeting customers in the platforms they already use to plan work, solve problems and make decisions,” Leopold said.
The company said early customer usage has focused heavily on equipment specifications and rental planning questions.
United Rentals said the broader strategy behind the rollout is to reduce friction in equipment planning and improve operational efficiency for construction and industrial job sites.
