STV infrastructure projects win American Council of Engineering Companies awards
STV, an engineering, architectural, planning and program and construction management services company, earned awards for sewer, water and wastewater projects from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The awards honor project work that is creating a transformative impact on communities across the United States.
An STV project will be honored by ACEC with a National Recognition Award: Sanitary Sewer Improvements on Rental Car Road at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, NC.
In Charlotte, STV was contracted to perform design services at Charlotte Douglass International Airport (CLT) that would increase the capacity of CLT’s sanitary sewer system. These improvements are projected to meet the airport’s needs for the next 25 years and were constructed without adversely impacting airport operations. The nearly $6 million project was successfully completed on schedule through detailed planning and continuous coordination with multiple stakeholders. The project also won a Grand Award in the Special Projects category from ACEC North Carolina.
STV designed approximately 2,300 linear feet of new sanitary gravity sewers to convey sewage to the existing Charlotte Water (CLTWater) Coffey Creek sewer interceptor. The firm’s design integrated seven trenchless crossings through existing roadways, parking lots, and the new passenger access deck in the airport’s main terminal, including a 300-foot, 48-inch diameter steel casing located 35 feet deep to link to the existing interceptor, and a bored casing threaded between piles of an existing retaining wall.

Other STV projects recognized by state/regional ACEC chapters include:
- Vista Ridge Regional Supply Project (VRRSP), which won the ACEC Texas Project of the Year award, as well as the Water/Wastewater Project of the Year award. The design-build team consisted of CP&Y, an STV Company; Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc.; and Garney Construction. At the time of completion, the VRRSP was the largest public-private partnership (P3) water project in North America. The project consists of a well field in Burleson County, three booster pump stations, four ground storage tanks, and a 142-mile transmission pipeline that conveys potable water from Burleson County to San Antonio. The project team successfully delivered the project from conception to water production under budget and within four-and-a-half years.
- Glassboro-Camden Line Environmental Impact Statement, which received honors from ACEC chapters in two states. ACEC of New York presented it with a Gold Award in the Studies, Research and Consulting Engineering Services category at its awards gala in April. ACEC of New Jersey honored it with a Distinguished Award in the same category.
