UCT 2022 completes a successful first day
Today kicked off the first day of the 2022 Underground Technology conference and exhibition, the largest educational conference in the underground industry.
UCT began this morning with seven educational tracks covering a wide range of industry topics.
Each track includes important information for the underground construction and utility industry including damage prevention, emerging technologies, asset management and more.
At noon, a crowd of over 200 people gathered to honor Gary Oradat, this year’s MVP Award recipient.
Throughout his career, Oradat has demonstrated leadership and expertise that significantly contributed to the improvement of the agencies he was in, and to the underground sewer and water infrastructure industry.
The work he and many of the previous MVP recipients did, especially during Houston’s 1990s technology explosion as a key element of the Greater Houston Wastewater Program, allowed the city to develop and utilize technology and materials to reshape our industry. The template has been often repeated by other cities around the country.
Oradat’s career has also positively impacted the underground marketplace by assisting with improvement of concrete additives and pipeline coatings/liners for use in manhole and/or sanitary sewer rehabilitation.
The afternoon was also a time for top industry partners to showcase their products and services. The UCT exhibit hall was filled with hundreds of people with opportunities to network with fellow industry members.

Registration reopens at 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 26 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
More sessions will take place Jan. 26-27 beginning at 8:30 a.m., along with the exhibit hall that will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Jan. 26 and 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 27
On Jan. 26, there will also be an HDD Reunion to honor Frank Canon and John Hair at 4:45 p.m. Tickets must be purchased before at the registration booth.
