Bellevue, Id., receives over $3 million in funding to upgrade water system
(UI) – Last month, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) awarded over $3 million in grants to the city of Bellevue to upgrade its water system. The $3,304,837 grant will cover 34% of replacement and relocation costs for a water line sourced in Muldoon Canyon, the Idaho Mountain Express reported.
The grant money will come from $115 million marked by the state legislature through the DEQ State Revolving Loan Fund.
In a statement, DEQ asserted that “the combination of Idaho’s rapid population growth, aging water and wastewater infrastructure, and unprecedented cost escalation is requiring communities to make immediate and substantiated investments in water and wastewater infrastructure.”
In 2021, a survey performed by DEQ found four “significant deficiencies” from the spring source that could lead to contamination from surface water. The funding will help the city maintain safe drinking water in light of DEQ’s findings. The grant could also allow the city to plan, design, and build a new water line.
