Texas to allocate $1 billion for state-wide water infrastructure projects
(UI) – According to the Texas Water Newsroom, voters in Texas “overwhelmingly” approved Proposition 6, which creates a Texas Water Fund and allocates $1 billion for various water infrastructure projects across the state. The funds will be distributed by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) to upgrade existing water systems, fund new projects and financial assistance programs, and create a public water awareness program.
The Texas Water Newsroom indicated that $250 million of the $1 billion investment must go to the New Water Supply for Texas Fund. This program aims to deploy “innovative” water supply strategies such as aquifer storage, oil and gas produced water treatment, and more.
The New Water Supply for Texas Fund must also “prioritize” water infrastructure projects in small, rural communities with a population of less than 150,000.
Additionally, the Construction Broadcast Sheet reported that the state of Texas will allocate over $2 million to three different water authorities for state-wide infrastructure upgrades. This includes nearly $1.5 million to Barton Water Supply Corp. in Gordon, Texas, for pump rehabilitation. Other entities receiving funds include The City of Barton for distribution line replacement work. This funding is separate from the New Water Supply for Texas Fund and will come from the Texas Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), the Construction Broadcast Sheet said.
