AT&T fiber optic cable vandalism sparks investigation in Tuolumne County, Calif.
(UI) — The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office is actively seeking assistance from the public regarding a recent act of vandalism that occurred on Aug. 30, resulting in a widespread disruption of cell service throughout Tuolumne County, myMotherLode reported.
The incident took place at approximately 5:50 pm in the vicinity of Highway 49 and Melones Court. Authorities have reported that approximately 50 feet of fiber optic cable was deliberately severed, causing an estimated $10,000 worth of damage.
Individuals who may have observed any suspicious activities in the area during the specified timeframe are strongly encouraged to get in touch with the Sheriff's Office through their non-emergency line at 209-533-5815.
The extensive service outage, which also affected emergency response capabilities, was ultimately restored on the morning of Aug. 31.
