Pennsylvania American Water upgrades Jefferson County system with 2,900 feet of new mains
(UI) — Pennsylvania American Water has begun installing approximately 2,900 feet of water main in the Punxsutawney area to enhance service reliability and fire protection for residents. These projects mark the final stages of a $5.7 million initiative that commenced in early 2023.
The water main replacement project, which commenced on March 27, began with the installation of 1,500 feet of new water main along Greenhouse Road in Bell Township. Subsequently, the focus will shift to Rikers and Williams Roads in Bell Township, where 1,400 feet of water main will be replaced.
Construction crews are scheduled to work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with anticipated traffic restrictions during the construction period. Pennsylvania American Water anticipates the entire water main installation process, including the connection of all customer service lines to the new mains and final restoration, to be completed by summer.
While the upgrades are underway, customers may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and lower-than-normal water pressure. However, crews are committed to minimizing these inconveniences by working swiftly to complete the project.
Pennsylvania American Water's investment in infrastructure improvement extends statewide, with approximately $688 million allocated in 2023 alone to enhance water and wastewater treatment facilities and pipeline systems. These ongoing investments have supported over 7,000 jobs, contributing to the state's economic growth and development.
