TC Energy to replace 49 miles of natural gas pipeline with Virginia Reliability Project
(UI) – TC Energy has commenced the Virginia Reliability Project to replace and widen approximately 49 miles of natural gas pipeline in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
The project aims to modernize the pipeline infrastructure, originally built nearly 70 years ago, to meet increasing energy demands. According to TC Energy’s website, the project involves replacing vintage 12-inch diameter pipeline with 24-inch diameter pipeline using “state-of-the-art” steel pipe and “cutting-edge” technology.
Supported by local politicians and business leaders, the project is seen as essential for reliable energy supply.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the project despite some concerns about greenhouse gas emissions. TC Energy plans to complete the pipeline upgrade by November 2025.
