Frontier to expand fiber broadband network to rural Illinois with $25 million grant

(UI) – Frontier, the largest pure-play fiber provider in the U.S, received $24.7 million in grant funding to expand high-speed fiber broadband service to homes and businesses in rural Illinois. The grant was awarded by Connect Illinois with the assistance of Greene County Economic Development Group.

With this grant, the company will expand its fast, reliable fiber-optic network in rural Greene County, Illinois, to underserved communities.

“Expanding access to affordable, high-speed reliable internet in unserved and underserved communities within our footprint is a huge part of Building Gigabit America,” said Veronica Bloodworth, Frontier’s Chief Network Officer. “We are proud to partner with Greene County to bring residents the fastest, most reliable broadband connection available. This will unlock significant opportunities for the people in Greene County for generations to come.”

“The Greene County fiber project will support economic growth and entrepreneurship and it will enhance agriculture, healthcare and education across the county and state,” said Pat Pinkston with the Greene County Economic Development Group. “These funds will go a long way in closing the digital divide by bringing access to reliable high-speed internet in every part of Illinois.
