Lynchburg, Va., expanding sewer access, upgrading waterlines in Richland Hills and College Hill

(UI) — Construction is underway on two major utility projects in Lynchburg: the Richland Hills Sewer Extension Project and the Sixth & Madison Utility Improvements Project in College Hill. The upgrades aim to improve water service, sewer access, and stormwater management for residents.

The Richland Hills project will extend city sewer access to more than 250 homes, allowing homeowners to connect as aging septic systems fail. The city’s Septic-to-Sewer Program offers nearly $2,000 in cost savings for those making the switch.

In College Hill, the Sixth & Madison project will replace aging waterlines, repair sewer lines, install new stormwater inlets, and upgrade fire hydrants to improve fire protection.

These projects follow the completion of similar infrastructure upgrades in Blue Ridge Farms and Seabury-Hughes (Fairview Heights).

Other Major Infrastructure Projects in Lynchburg:

  • LYHBeyond, Blackwater CSO Tunnel Project: Construction has entered the drill-and-blast phase at the Seventh Street site.
  • Downtown Renewal, Phase 4: Work continues on Main Street between 12th Street and the Lynchburg Expressway.
  • Stream & Wetland Restoration at College Lake: Construction of a new stream channel through the former lakebed is in progress.
