Paterson, N.J., crews restore 30-inch water main, lift some boil advisories
(UI) — Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) has restored service to the 30-inch water main disrupted since Aug. 8 near Paterson’s Great Falls, bringing normal water pressure back to parts of Paterson, Prospect Park, Haledon, and North Haledon.
The Manchester Utilities Authority, which operates the Haledon and North Haledon water systems, confirmed normal pressures had returned in both towns.
Work continues on the adjacent 24-inch pipeline at Great Falls, expected to be restored this week. PVWC said crews have installed about 600 feet of new 24-inch and 30-inch pipe and valves in recent days, replacing sections more than 140 years old.
“This critical repair underscores the importance of PVWC’s capital replacement program,” said PVWC Executive Director Jim Mueller. “By modernizing aging infrastructure, we can reduce system vulnerabilities and ensure reliable, safe water service for our customers.”
Boil water advisory
The boil water advisory has been lifted for nearly 77,000 customers in Paterson, including areas south of Broadway, east of Spruce Street and west of Route 20. However, it remains in effect for other parts of Paterson as well as Haledon and North Haledon.
Residents still under the advisory should boil water for at least one minute before use or rely on bottled water until notified that the water is safe.
