Folsom, Calif., begins 24-inch water pipeline project to boost reliability
(UI) — The City of Folsom has launched construction on a new 24-inch water pipeline designed to improve reliability and add redundancy to the city’s water system as growth continues in the southern Folsom Plan Area (FPA).
The pipeline is outlined in both the city’s Water Master Plan and Urban Water Management Plan and will serve as a critical link between new developments south of Highway 50 and the city’s Water Treatment Plant on Natoma Street.
According to city officials, the project is funded through Community Facilities District No. 18 bond proceeds, meaning property owners north of Highway 50 will not contribute to costs.
The pipeline will run along East Bidwell Street and Oak Avenue Parkway, following rail and trail corridors before connecting to existing infrastructure at East Bidwell and Iron Point. Construction includes potholing, traffic control, tie-ins, and improvements to nearby trails, such as grading and drainage upgrades.
Current work is focused on potholing along East Bidwell and construction along Oak Avenue Parkway. The Oak Parkway Trail is temporarily closed through the end of July as work continues. Major construction on East Bidwell is scheduled to start July 1, with road surface restoration on Oak Avenue Parkway also planned for July.
City officials say the new pipeline will enhance service to FPA customers while bolstering supply reliability for properties north of Highway 50.
