Global tunnel construction projects reach $1.5 trillion worldwide
DUBLIN (UI) — Global investment in tunnel construction has reached unprecedented levels, with a total project pipeline valued at $1.5 trillion, according to a new report from ResearchAndMarkets.com.
The Project Insight – Global Tunnel Construction Projects (Q3 2025) report details projects at all stages of development, from early planning to execution, highlighting significant regional investments in underground infrastructure.
North-East Asia leads global spending with a tunnel pipeline worth $395.3 billion, accounting for more than 27% of the total. Western Europe follows with $341.7 billion, while Australasia and North America have pipelines valued at $167.3 billion and $126.6 billion, respectively.
More than half of global tunnel construction value — $805.1 billion — is currently in the execution stage, the report found. Projects in pre-planning, design, and tender stages represent another $648.6 billion combined, showing a strong pipeline of work still to come.
The report lists the top 20 projects per region by country, stage, and value, and identifies leading contractors, consulting engineers, and project owners driving tunnel development worldwide.
ResearchAndMarkets.com said the data offers valuable insights for contractors, investors, and infrastructure developers assessing opportunities in tunnel construction.
