Vermeer fine-tunes D20x22 S3 HDD for greater durability, easier maintenance
Pella, Iowa (UI) — Vermeer has introduced model year updates to its D20x22 S3 horizontal directional drill (HDD), adding features designed to improve durability and serviceability for utility contractors working in dense urban areas.
The company said the latest version includes a redesigned hood for easier maintenance access, an improved hydraulic circuit with added protection against pressure spikes, and new hose and harness routing to help prevent damage and reduce downtime.
“Utility contractors depend on equipment that delivers consistent performance, day after day,” said Clint Recker, HDD product manager at Vermeer. “The D20x22 S3 has proven itself as a reliable workhorse, and these enhancements make it even better. We've listened to contractors about what would help them be most productive and engineered improvements that deliver exactly that.”
The upgraded model retains the drill’s 19,500 pounds of thrust and pullback, 2,250 foot-pounds of rotational torque, and compact 48-inch width suited for fiber and gas installations in tight spaces. Powered by a 74-horsepower Deutz Tier 4 Final engine, the D20x22 S3 also features AutoDrill and Auto Resume capabilities that optimize performance in changing soil conditions.
Vermeer’s VermeerOne™ digital platform provides real-time machine tracking, system alerts, and performance analytics to help contractors monitor fleets and make data-driven decisions.
“These enhancements build on the D20x22 S3's already strong foundation to help contractors maintain peak performance and keep projects moving forward smoothly,” Recker said.
