Cupertino, Calif., water main break floods homes, prompts boil advisory
(UI) — Several homes in Cupertino were left waterlogged after a water main rupture sent water rushing into the neighborhood on Sept. 5, according to ABC7 News.
The break occurred near Scenic Boulevard just before 10 a.m., prompting a response from Santa Clara County fire crews. Residents described seeing streets under water and significant damage inside their homes. One homeowner reported soaked floors and ruined wood furniture.
San Jose Water Company, which operates the line, said a contractor working in the area struck the pipe. The company noted that utilities typically mark underground infrastructure before digging, though the cause of the mishap remains under investigation, as reported by ABC7 News.
Cleanup stretched into the afternoon, and San Jose Water issued a precautionary boil advisory, explaining that a drop in line pressure can allow outside materials into the system. The utility also delivered bottled water to affected residents, while some displaced families arranged to stay in hotels.
