Minnesota announces over $236 million in funding for water infrastructure across state
The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (MPFA) has unveiled over $236.4 million in loans and grants aimed at enhancing wastewater and drinking water facilities across 18 cities in the state.
According to a Radio Mankato news report, since its founding in 1987, the MPFA has disbursed more than $7.1 billion to support public infrastructure, significantly benefiting communities throughout Minnesota.
Of the $236.4 million just announced, around $60 million will be designated for the state's lead service line replacement initiative.
MPFA Chair and DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek emphasized the importance of this funding, stating that it plays a crucial role in improving public health, environmental conditions, and economic stability, Radio Mankato reported.
Executive Director Steve Walter highlighted that the MPFA is dedicated to providing essential financing and technical support to communities that may lack such resources, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining clean and accessible water.
The MPFA manages several financial programs, including the Clean Water Revolving Fund and the Drinking Water Revolving Fund, to assist local governments in building necessary infrastructure. Additional funding is available through various programs, including the Point Source Implementation Grant program and the Water Infrastructure Fund.
