NY's Hochul approves $43 million in funding for water, sewer infrastructure upgrades

(UI) - New York State has approved $43 million in low-cost financing and grants to support water and sewer infrastructure improvements across local communities.

The funding, authorized by the Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) Board of Directors, will help municipalities advance critical projects such as lead service line replacement, treatment of emerging contaminants, and upgrades to aging water systems. The financing structure is designed to reduce upfront costs and limit the burden on ratepayers.

The investment draws on a mix of state and federal programs, including the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds, as well as state grant initiatives aimed at improving affordability for infrastructure projects. Officials said the approach allows communities to move forward with necessary upgrades while maintaining manageable water and sewer rates.

A portion of the funding will support lead service line replacement in Utica, while additional resources will be directed toward broader system modernization and water quality improvements across the state.

State officials said continued investment in water infrastructure is critical to protecting public health, addressing environmental challenges, and ensuring long-term system reliability.
