Parsons tapped for construction management on NYC’s Newtown Creek CSO tunnel

(UI) - Parsons has been selected by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to provide construction management services for the Newtown Creek Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) storage tunnel, a major wastewater infrastructure project serving Brooklyn and Queens.

The company will act as part of the Newtown Creek CSO Partners joint venture, alongside AECOM and EPC Consultants Inc., supporting delivery of a large-diameter tunnel system designed to reduce untreated sewer discharges into local waterways.

The project includes approximately 3.25 miles of tunnel, a tunnel dewatering pump station, and related infrastructure. Once complete, the system will capture and store excess combined sewer flows during storm events, helping improve water quality and reduce environmental impacts in surrounding communities.

Parsons will provide construction management oversight across the program, drawing on its experience with complex tunnel and water infrastructure projects in dense urban environments. The company will also utilize the DEP’s Construction Management Information System (CMIS) to support coordination and delivery.

The long-term program is one of New York City’s largest wastewater infrastructure investments, aimed at addressing regulatory requirements and advancing sustainability goals tied to stormwater and sewer system performance.
