Water main break in Elma, N.Y. leaves 11,000 residents without service
(UI) — A water main break in the Town of Elma, N.Y., prompted a state of emergency Tuesday after nearly 11,000 residents lost water service, according to local officials.
The rupture occurred around 10 a.m., with crews working to repair the damaged line. The cause of the failure has not yet been determined.
A boil water advisory was issued for affected areas in Elma, WIVB News reported, as well as portions of Orchard Park and Aurora served by the impacted main. Officials urged residents to limit water use where service remains active while repairs are underway.
Emergency response measures include bottled water distribution and coordination with local businesses and community facilities impacted by the outage, according to WIVB. An emergency operations center has been activated to support response efforts.
No timeline has been provided for full service restoration as crews continue repair work.
