OSHA cites FleetPride for confined space violations after fatality in Texas
(UI) — The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed $264,380 in penalties against FleetPride Inc. after an investigation into a worker fatality found multiple confined space and workplace safety violations at the company's Corpus Christi, Texas, facility.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) opened its investigation after an employee died from asphyxiation on Jan. 7, 2026, while inspecting a tanker trailer.
Inspectors determined the company failed to implement a confined space program, maintain required elements of its respiratory protection program, and adequately protect workers from electrical hazards, among other violations.
OSHA cited FleetPride for 16 serious violations and three other-than-serious violations, proposing penalties totaling $264,380.
The company has 15 business days after receiving the citations to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA, or contest the findings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
OSHA said the case underscores the importance of proper confined space procedures, respiratory protection and hazard controls when employees perform work inside enclosed spaces such as tanker trailers.
