Harris County district begins trenchless water line replacement project

(UI) — Harris County Water Control and Improvement District No. 91 is moving forward with a trenchless water line replacement project to upgrade aging underground infrastructure across several neighborhood streets.

The phased project will use trenchless construction methods, allowing crews to replace pipelines by working from access pits rather than excavating long trenches, reducing overall surface disruption.

Construction is expected to begin between February and March 2026 and continue through early summer, with work planned along Anvil Drive, Corral Drive and Tucumcari Drive, between Butte Creek Road and Ella Boulevard.

While the trenchless approach will limit impacts, officials said some sidewalks, driveways and yards may still be affected, with all areas to be restored after construction. Some fire hydrants will also be relocated to meet updated standards.

The project is supported by a $5 million loan from the Texas Water Development Board and is part of a broader effort to replace aging water lines throughout the district in the coming years.

Residents may experience temporary water service interruptions of up to eight hours, typically affecting sections of about 500 feet at a time, as construction progresses.
