Incoming New Hampshire Governor Pledges to Support Natural Gas Projects
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Incoming Republican governor Chris Sununu is pledging to put his “political capital” behind projects designed to bring more natural gas into New Hampshire.
Sununu told business leaders Thursday he hopes to see more companies look to build natural gas pipelines in the state, New Hampshire Public Radio (http://bit.ly/2huQS3u ) reported. He said he’ll fight for any projects that are designed with local input and would be a good deal for New Hampshire.
“I don’t mind putting my politics behind it if you will, my political capital,” he said. “If we are going to get a better result for the state of New Hampshire, that is all that matters.”
That doesn’t include company Kinder Morgan’s recent plan for a pipeline in southern New Hampshire. That project was eventually pulled, and Sununu said it wasn’t right for New Hampshire. But he said he’d welcome more proposals.
Businesses across New Hampshire say high energy costs are a top barrier to growth. Sununu was speaking at a Business and Industry Association energy symposium.
