New Jersey American Water Invests $3.1 Million in New Water Mains

Beginning this month, New Jersey American Water will invest $3.1 million in new water mains in Morris and Somerset counties.
The project, which will take place in Bernardsville, Chatham Township and Mendham, includes approximately 10,700 feet of new pipe that will replace water main that was installed as far back as the 1920s. The aging 4- and 6-inch water lines will be replaced with 8- and 12-inch ductile iron pipes. These projects also include replacing fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.
“These improvements should enhance water service reliability and water flows for residences and fire protection,” stated Tom Shroba, senior director of Operations, North Region. “These water main improvements are part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life.”
