New York Village Votes to Sue over Tainted Drinking Water
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — Officials in an upstate New York village have voted to sue two companies for costs related to tainted drinking water.
An attorney for Hoosick Falls says the village voted Tuesday to sue Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics and Honeywell International after failed negotiation attempts.
Village officials blame the companies for the PFOA contamination of the public water supply and several private wells. PFOA, or perfluorooctanoic acid, has been linked to cancer and thyroid disease.
The attorney says one issue preventing negotiations is the companies want to be exempt from any future claims related to pollution.
The village is seeking undisclosed financial damages.
Honeywell said in a statement that it’s committed to continued dialogue with the village to resolve issues. St. Gobain didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
