Construction worker dies after being found unconscious in trench box

(UI) — A construction worker was discovered unconscious in a trench box on Aug. 1 and has since died, as confirmed by Suffolk Fire & Rescue and reported by WTKR.
The worker, who was found approximately 15 feet deep in the trench near Second Ave and Pitchkettle Rd in Suffolk, Virginia, was engaged in utility repairs when the incident occurred.
According to WTKR, Emergency personnel arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 and administered advanced life support. Despite their efforts, the worker, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The Suffolk Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
