California American Water recognized for 2023 Eardley-Forest Lake Transmission Main Replacement Project
(WO) – California American Water’s Eardley-Forest Lake Transmission Main Replacement Project has been awarded a 2024 Award of Merit by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Monterey Bay Chapter.
The award recognizes the critical emergency repairs completed in 2023 following a major rainstorm that caused a large tree to fall and damage a 30-inch transmission main in the Monterey service area.
This vital pipeline supplies water to the Monterey Peninsula, and the damage necessitated a coordinated response from the company’s engineering and operations teams. To reduce the possibility of future tree incidents, California American Water designed the project so that the replacement section of pipeline would be underground and outside of a sensitive waterway.
“Our team responded quickly and efficiently to the critical main break,” said David Pezzini, Engineering Project Manager for California American Water. “We understand the importance of dependable water service for our customers, and we are committed to taking the necessary steps to help ensure safe, reliable water service for our customers and the well-being of the environment.”
The repair project involved the replacement and realignment of the damaged section of the transmission main and was completed in November 2023 for an investment of $2.3 million. California American Water partnered with Monterey Peninsula Engineering and Blair, Church & Flynn Consulting Engineers to successfully make repairs while maintaining water service for approximately 100,000 Monterey peninsula customers and businesses.
“We are honored to receive this recognition from the APWA Monterey Bay Chapter,” said Pezzini. “This project exemplifies our commitment to investing where it matters, whether that’s during emergencies or while planning for the future.”
