Final stretch of $34 million Becks Run water main project underway in Pittsburgh, Pa.
(UI) — Crews have kicked off the final phase of Pennsylvania American Water’s $34 million water main replacement project along Becks Run Road. The project, which runs through Baldwin Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, is tied to upgrades at the Hays Mine Treatment Plant.
“This project was significant in scope, yet vital to the 137,000 residents served by the Hays Mine Treatment Plant,” said Project Manager Morgan Castle. “We have been mindful of the residents, businesses, buses and emergency vehicles and have committed to accommodating them during construction.”
During this final stretch of work, drivers heading south on Becks Run Road will still be able to reach homes and businesses, but access to Wagner Street will be closed. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Wagner Street, though local destinations can still be reached via East Carson Street.
Nearly three miles of 42-inch water mains have already been installed along Becks Run Road. Construction is expected to wrap up by mid-summer.
In addition to the pipeline upgrades, Pennsylvania American Water has replaced critical components at the Hays Mine Treatment Plant, including caustic tanks, solids handling equipment and all 16 filters, part of a broader effort to ensure consistent water quality.
