Exeter, N.H., begins next phase of Westside Drive water and sewer work
(UI) — Construction is moving forward on the Westside Drive Area Utility Improvement Project as the town advances long-planned upgrades to underground water, sewer and drainage infrastructure in the neighborhood.
The project, recommended under the town’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Long Term Control Plan with the EPA, is aimed at improving system reliability and supporting future drainage and roadway improvements. The town is working with Underwood Engineers, Inc. on final design and construction coordination.
As part of the ongoing work, two construction crews are now installing new water mains simultaneously, accelerating progress across Westside Drive and nearby streets. Crews are currently active on Laperle Avenue and portions of Westside Drive, with additional work scheduled to resume in early January following the holiday break.
To accommodate upcoming drainage, water and roadway improvements, Fidium Fiber is also performing work in the neighborhood to abandon an existing underground communications system and transition service to overhead infrastructure. Temporary internet or communications outages may occur during this work.
Earlier phases of construction included utility relocation, traffic detours and emergency repairs following a water line break in November that temporarily disrupted service. Town officials advised residents that some discoloration may occur after service restoration, with flushing recommended to clear lines.
The project has progressed through multiple public meetings, environmental reviews and permitting approvals since 2021. Final design authorization was received from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services earlier this year, allowing construction to proceed.
Town officials said work schedules may shift due to weather conditions, holidays and site constraints, and residents are encouraged to monitor weekly work zone updates for the latest information.
