Granite lands $495 million Texas project with 27 miles of fiber, culverts, crossings
(UI) — Granite has been awarded a $495 million infrastructure project near Laredo, Texas, that includes extensive underground and utility-related work such as fiber optic installation, culvert crossings and low water crossings.
The Webb-Zapata project, awarded by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, covers approximately 27 miles of infrastructure improvements. The scope includes installation of about 27 miles of electrical systems, lighting, cameras and fiber optics, along with the construction of eight major culvert crossings and 68 paved concrete low water crossings.
The project also involves mass excavation, grading and roadway work, supporting broader infrastructure development along the corridor.
“Granite is focused on growing our portfolio of federal work, and the Webb-Zapata project is a major piece of that growth. This award reflects the collaboration and commitment of teams across multiple regions of the company, brought together by the support and leadership of many strong leaders within Granite. Together, we continue to demonstrate our capabilities as a reliable partner on vital federal infrastructure projects,” says Granite Federal Division Vice President Curt Haldeman.
“We are well positioned to serve our clients’ needs as we have the broad range of skillsets and sophisticated management required for tactical infrastructure projects,” adds Granite Program Manager, Todd Keller.
Construction is expected to begin in April 2026, with completion targeted for July 2027.
