Port Arthur, Texas, approves drainage upgrades to address chronic flooding in El Vista

Port Arthur officials have approved a drainage improvement project aimed at reducing persistent flooding in the El Vista neighborhood, following years of concerns from residents, according to KFDM.

The plan focuses on a section of 19th Street between Joe Louis Avenue and Terminal Road, where stormwater issues have repeatedly impacted homes during heavy rainfall. The project is intended to improve runoff capacity and alleviate flooding in the west-side subdivision.

As reported by KFDM, residents have long dealt with water intrusion during storms, with some homes experiencing significant flooding when drainage systems are overwhelmed.

City officials said the improvements are expected to provide relief for affected households by upgrading infrastructure along the corridor, an area that has seen recurring issues during prolonged rain events.
