Boynton Beach, Fla., drainage overhaul faces $20 million price tag
Officials in Boynton Beach are continuing plans for a major drainage and roadway improvement project in the Chapel Hill neighborhood despite rising construction estimates that now exceed $20 million, according to WFLX report.
The city has been working on plans to modernize stormwater infrastructure in the flood-prone neighborhood after years of resident complaints tied to roadway flooding and drainage failures. Updated construction estimates presented to city commissioners showed project costs climbing significantly based on recent contractor pricing and infrastructure work occurring across the region.
City officials said they are pursuing grant funding to offset costs, though construction timelines remain uncertain. Current projections show work potentially beginning in 2028 if outside funding is secured.
As reported by WFLX report, commissioners also discussed dividing the work into multiple phases to make the project financially manageable. Officials are additionally considering resurfacing deteriorating neighborhood roads ahead of the larger drainage overhaul to address ongoing infrastructure complaints from residents.
City leaders said the project remains a priority because of longstanding flooding concerns and aging infrastructure conditions throughout the Chapel Hill area.
