LADWP tests repaired West Hollywood water main
(UI) — Crews are pressure testing a repaired section of the water main that ruptured in West Hollywood last week, marking the next step toward restoring service after the break released an estimated 17 million gallons of water, according to MyNewsLA.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) completed installation of a new 25-foot section of the 36-inch, 110-year-old transmission main on July 19 and is gradually repressurizing the pipeline while conducting inspections to verify the repair is leak-free before returning the line to service.
As reported by MyNewsLA, additional leak checks will be performed as pressure increases. Once the pipeline passes those inspections, crews will disinfect the repaired section, complete water quality testing and dechlorinate the line before restoration work continues.
The water main failed July 16 beneath Sunset Boulevard at Holloway Drive, flooding nearby streets, damaging homes, businesses and vehicles, and creating a sinkhole that forced the closure of part of the Sunset Strip.
Sunset Boulevard remains closed between Sherbourne Drive and San Vicente Boulevard while crews complete repairs and restore the roadway. LADWP has not announced when the line or roadway will fully reopen.
