Water Line Break Triggers Landslide in Seattle

SEATTLE (AP) — A water main break triggered a 50-foot slide that dumped tons of mud, trees, and rocks onto a roadway in West Seattle.
KOMO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2jH2mW6 ) that the slide came down at about 11 p.m. Thursday on California Avenue SW.
No one was injured, but the debris damaged a boat stored in a yard of a nearby home.
Emergency personnel on scene say the slide was caused by a buried 2-inch water service line that broke. It spewed water and destabilized the hillside.
Utility crews shut off water to the pipe before it caused any further damage.
Crews worked early Friday to clean up the mess. Now they are trying to determine the cause of the water-line break.
